Quick answers
What do I need to run Expr?
A Mac with macOS 15.5 or later, or an iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.
How do I sync my notes between devices?
Turn on Sync with iCloud in Settings on each device; it's off until you do. Your notes sync through your own iCloud account. Changes made offline are sent when the device is back online.
Can I share a note with someone?
Yes, with anyone who has an iCloud account. You both edit the same note, and changes appear for everyone in it. Notes shared with you are in Shared with Me.
I deleted a note by mistake.
Deleted notes go to Recently Deleted first, so you can get them back from there.
How do I connect Claude or another AI agent?
On the Mac, open Settings ▸ Agents. It adds Expr to Claude Desktop in one click, gives you the command for Claude Code, and the server's path for other MCP apps.
The first time an agent reads or writes a note, macOS asks whether that app may control Expr. If you said no, turn it on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Automation.
Where do exchange rates come from?
From the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. Expr refreshes them when a note uses a currency, at most every 12 hours. Offline, it keeps using the rates it has.
Where can I see everything Expr understands?
The sidebar's Guide tab walks through it with examples, and the Functions tab lists every function. On the Mac, the guide is also in Help ▸ Expr Guide (⌘?).
Can I export a note?
On the Mac, as PDF, HTML or text, with every value formatted as in the note.
Is Expr free?
Yes: no ads, no subscription, nothing locked. Settings has optional tips. A tip unlocks nothing, so there's nothing to restore on a new device.
